Most everyone has an antique clock in their family. Perhaps a grandmother has one proudly displayed on her mantle or a great grandfather had given one to his son. Because antique wall clocks are so well loved, they usually get passed down from family to family and tend to stay within the family for many years.
However, if you don’t have one in your family, there are certainly brick and mortar stores and online retailers that sell them. A great place to find antique clocks is at estate sales. You can often get a good deal on a heirloom clock at estate sales.
It is a good idea to know the history of your clock. Most collectors like to know information about antique wall clocks. Good information to know about a older clock is who is the manufacturer and what is its age.
Sometimes this information is printed on the clock. If you have the brochure that came with the clock, that is fantastic. If not, you can go to your local library and get a book on antique clocks. You can also try to search for this information online.
It is important that the clock works. Antique wall clocks that have been passed down through the family, may no longer work. It is recommended that you get a broken wall clock repaired. A working clock is much more valuable than a non-working clock.
Also, why have a wall clock that doesn’t work? Now it is true that grandfather clocks are valued for their history and that fact that they are a heirloom, but a working grandfather clock is also more valuable than a non-working one.
If you don’t have an antique clock within your family, don’t despair. Today, there are wood wall clocks that look like antique wall clocks. You can purchase them at your local lighting or home improvement store or off of the Internet.
They come in many shapes and size as well as colors and wood grains. Oak, maple and cherry are popular choices for these types of clocks. Most have moving pendulums, which are usually in a gold collar. Many wall clocks are offered with a chime feature, which can be adjusted for volume control.
